GIG REVIEWS FROM SWITZERLAND!
Hey guys, some reviews from In Matin bleu, 20 Minutes and Le Nouvelliste!
20 Minutes...
"The young Australian musician has proved that his success was justified. His excellent performance in the big top charmed the audience. More familiar with treading the English boards, this talented songwriter was completely at ease. His lyrics and his serious voice transported the auditorium into an imaginary world closer to made in the USA rock than that of Midnight Oil."
Matin Blue....
"With his Art Garfunkel haircut, Liam Gerner has nothing of the Australian surfer about him. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be surprising if this protégé of Peter Gabriel creates a tidal wave. Because, if you believed his unoriginal folk pop compositions, the singer renewed himself with each song: electric, intimate, a little bit dance or very poppy. The recipe conquered an audience less and less sparse…"

TOUR BLOG – Irish Tour and Christmas holiday in Australia
I hope the Christmas and New Year’s break was long enough for you to go hard and at the same time - recharge. I hope 2009 brings all that you wish for. I’m sitting here in Australia on holiday at home, its 41 degrees outside. Blinking hot!
It’s great to be home after a couple of years touring and recording in the UK & Europe. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been back. I’ll be adding a few photo’s of my time in Oz for you. A bit of seal watching, swimming with sharks and beer drinking.
I’d like to send a big thank you to all the folk who came out to the gigs with Paolo Nutini in Belfast and Dublin before Christmas. The tour was a ripper, Karl Brazil came and played drums for the shows which was great fun. Karl says he’d like to apologise for smiling and grinning through the set so much, he’s been working on his introspective dark muso look over Christmas & New Years’. I suggest some negative feedback on his myspace site would help him through this time. We are looking forward to getting back to Ireland, there was talk of doing a Dublin show in March. So watch this space!
I’m excited about doing a gig on the 25th of January in my home town of Mount Barker, South Australia, I believe it’s called The Big Lounge and it’s on the main street (don’t ya know), and I’m on at 8pm. I will be joined by a rocking rhythm section “The Lost Dogs” ..... comprising Lyndon Gray on bass and Toby Lang on drums, these lads also play in The Audreys. We may do a gig in Adelaide itself over that weekend too. Keep an ear out.
I’m looking forward to getting my record out to you this year with RCA and touring around the UK/Europe and the USA. I hope to see you soon.
Best wishes again for 2009!
Love

Blog From Liam!
Hello there
Just a quick howdy ho…
I’m about to go into the studio next week to finish the album and get a couple of new tunes down. I’m quite excited actually, it will be good fun. The album will be released in 2009.
But in the meantime, I’ll be releasing a wee live EP that I recorded at The Bedford in London a week ago. That should come out before xmas.
I’m doing three gigs with Paolo Nutini in Belfast (1) and Dublin (2) in December. I may do a couple of London shows before the years out too. Keep coming back to my site for updates!
I’ve been writing songs since I returned from all the touring. I usually just write on my own but I had fun writing with a great musician Leo Abrahams last week. I found out about Leo through the work he did on the latest Brian Eno and David Byrne album, (which I love and I’ll talk about later). So thanks to myspace ,I sent him a message and we hooked up and wrote a tune. He’ll be coming along to the session next week to play on my album too.
Ooops better get the door…Ricardo the seven foot tall Hammond organ repair man has finally come… a year and a half late!
…Well with that done.. and a few days gone by.. I’m back to this blog. I wrote a songs with a great fun bunch of cats; Anna Krantz and Henry Priestman yesterday, great fun it was, the songs called Adelaide..
Well that’s all really, but I wanted to tell you about a few records I’m listening to at the moment before I disappear again … here they are
Everything That Happens Will Happen Today – by David Byrne and Brian Eno
This is their second record, the last they made a few decades ago. This is one of the most exciting records I’ve ever heard. Byrne’s imaginative free lyricism and joyous almost gospel melodies were done in New York and were written separately after Eno sent Byrne the music. The music was made in London. Some of my favourite lyrics on the record are:
“Ev'rybody says that the living is easy I can barely see ‘cause my head's in the way,
Tigers walk behind me - they are to remind me that I'm lost - but I'm not afraid..”
Love this record
Since Kyabram - by Declan O’Rourke
This is a record that came out officially in 2007, after its initial release in 2004 in a different form, that I have just discovered now, I did notice the lead track Galileo in a few films I’ve seen, but the record is fantastic. The song We Didn’t Mean To Go To Sea is a real brilliant musical ride. The songs are incredible and his voice is brilliant, a little bit of Ron Sexsmith, a little Rufus Wainwright. He seems to be going great guns in his home Ireland. Worth a listen or getting to a live show. What a voice.
Time the Conqueror – by Jackson Browne
This is Jackson’s new one. I’m a big fan of his last record The Naked Ride Home and his two solo live albums he’s released since. This is a strikingly powerful yet simple sounding record that captures some great live performances from his fantastic band, who’ve been with him for the past decade or so. The songs are raw, lyrically and musically, very melodic and often focus on the individual in the current political climate, pre US election. It’s Jackson at his best, fearless insight. I really like this record, but I found it a little difficult to take sooo seriously (which is a good thing) after hearing Randy Newman’s latest record in which he sings:
“The rich are getting richer, I should know
While we're going up, You're going down
And no one gives a shit but Jackson Browne, Jackson Browne”
Oh, but Jackson Browne’s website is worth a look, despite Randy’s dig, there are some good articles to be found at www.jacksonbrowne.com/readings
A few other albums I’m enjoying at the moment include that very Randy Newman record Harps and Angels it’s just so fun. It’s amazing that Randy only took eight weeks to write and another eight to record it. Oh and I’m loving Elbow’s Mercury Prize winning album and MGMT’s Oracular Spectacular too.
See you soon and take care
Oh and may the best man win….

It's been an exciting year so far. I have spent the last year touring in Europe and the UK with some great artists. The tour with Alanis Morissette was a ball, Zenith in Paris to 8,000 was a blast. The Royal Albert Hall gig with Paul Weller and Duffy was an incredible experience too. I then went and toured with Newton Faulkner, Amy Macdonald, The Drive By Truckers, Ryan Bingham and a few other great acts, which was fun. It's nice to be back down in London town for a few days and throw my jeans in the wash.
It's been great to see so many countries and towns and meet so many folk, so thank you for making me feel welcome. I'll return soon.
I recently signed to SonyBMG's Arista record label. I am looking forward to getting you my debut album early in the new year through the good folk there. I'll be recording a live in London EP in the next few weeks too.
So have a look around the site and I'll see you soon!
Best wishes

About Liam Gerner
Despite his years, it's been a long journey for 25-year old Liam Gerner. Having written songs and performed in his native South Australia since the age of 12, his relentless touring schedule has provided him with countless stories to explore in his songs. The result is a debut album packed full of narrative pearls to penetrate the heart of the human condition.

"These are the songs I wrote while in the Australian desert playing in bars to miners. There are tales of a dustman I saw in London, a refugee boat in Indonesia, an Aussie character called Benny Seal and a certain Spanish lady!"
Recorded at Air Studios with top producer Andy Strange (Elton John, INXS) and influenced by old blues and folk, Liam continues, "I’ve tried to capture all of the stories, places and music I’ve had in my life so far on this record".
Whilst playing in Australia, Liam was talent-spotted by Peter Gabriel who invited him to play at WOMAD, first in Australia, then in the UK. These shows led to successful headline performances at the Islington Academy and The Borderline in London. The touring continued extensively over the next six months playing support slots with Teddy Thompson, Newton Faulkner and Amy Macdonald. A dedicated fan base soon started to grow organically culminating in a sold out solo residency at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and a slot on the iTunes Festival in London replacing Dizzee Rascal to a rapturous response!
The relentless gigging continued at the Isle Of Wight Festival and subsequently supporting Paul Weller and Duffy at the Royal Albert Hall as part of April's Teenage Cancer Trust week.
Weller watched Liam's set from the side of the stage and having seen his instant connection with the enthusiastic audience, invited him onto his 18 date UK tour which started in Oxford and ended with 3 nights at the Hammersmith Apollo.
After touring with Weller, Liam continued his non-stop road trip, this time invited to support Alanis Morrisette around UK & Europe on her "Flavours Of Entanglement" tour playing to thousands in Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Turin, Barcelona, Vienna, Prague, Madrid and others.
Having constantly been on the road since November 2007, it was only appropriate that Liam signed his record deal with Sony BMG in his dressing room at the Brixton Academy on 19th June 2008.
Liam will release his debut album through the Arista label in 2009.
